Looks like we are cluttering up Myagers Carrera page with this stuff, so here is a more appropriate page. It would be neat to have a reunion of sorts with a target date of summer 2011 or 2012 to give guys time to rebuild as needed. Here are some thoughts to consider.
Site: Clean, clear lake or river w/ hotel on water with docks
Check where others have done this, MasterCraft, Correct Craft etc.
Central location or a North location one year South location next year
-
Good call. Again, Milwaukee Wisco...
-
There might be some merit to a north one year, south the next. Let's see what we get. I'll do some research tonight on other groups' reunions.
-
Correct Craft has their "north" one in Green Lake Wisconsin.....
-
Hey, Im up for whatever. I just hope I have the boat all up and running (in the water) in time. Next year better give me enough time :o or I might need to think about selling this thing ;D
I live in Florida, plenty of lakes here....... but if I had to vote, I would vote for Lake Martin in Alex City Alabama. Beautiful water HUGE lake, part of the Tallapoosa River. There are also some wonderful lakes in the Carolinas.
-
Do we have many West coast people? Monroe Lake in Indiana looks pretty promising.
-
Just a suggestion but Lake Norman, NC (just North of Charlotte) is fairly centrally located (N & S), and has plenty of lodging, restaurants, marinas, gas and entertainment on the lake. It's a huge lake but has many, many inlets and coves ideal for skiing and tie-ups. Attached is a photo of the "Woo" on :) Lake Norman earlier this month...what a great morning that was. :)
-
Central location maybe? Missouri has some amazing water. What ever is decided I will try to make it if its not to far away with the old 83 skier!
-
Lets not let this go to the bottom of the page. Sticky........Mods?
-
good call, done.
-
http://www.arkansasstateparks.com/park-finder/map-directions.aspx?id=9
????????????????????????? Looks really nice.
Check out the photo tour! Cool with all the islands on the lake!
-
Bump.....
Make sure you give me your locations.
-
I live in Columbus, OH. What a DRAG for skiing and anything else for that matter besides BUCKEYE football... Any place in KY, TN, PA or IN would be good. In KY & TN you can go later in the season (Early to Mid Sept) when the weather is still great and the rates are lower (if were looking at hotels / house boat rentals). And, the lakes are practically empty (of people) after Sept 1st with lots of lakes to choose from...
-
Norris lake in east Tn is a beautiful lake ,lots of coves and inlets. also houseboat rentals and vacation rentals (houses), hotels in almost every town around the lake. Its a large lake with 889 miles of shoreline mostly TVA land. after labor day its not crowded at all, water temp right now is about 88deg. I ski into mid nov. (wetsuit). but the water stays nice and warm all the way into late sept. The guys from up north could probably handle the temps without a suit into late oct. check out norris lake.com or norris lake on facebook. Located just off I 75 about 25 miles south of the ky. border
-
Ha we don't always wear suits in October in PA. OK is it too late to do something this year?
-
Oh and by the way, if we do a reuinion and Ron and/or Dan can come, I want to make sure that they pay for nothing except the gas to get there. The rest of us should pitch in and cover their accomodations, take them to dinner, host picnics where they don't need to bring anything, give them pulls, whatever....
-
Table Rock Lake in Southern Missouri would be an excellent meeting location. It is a very large clear lake with many accomodations.
Eric.
-
Lake Monroe, IN is in my back yard. The good thing is that you have a resort (The Four Winds) that people can stay at that is right on the lake. Great place for a weekend stay. It has a full service marina, indoor/outdoor pool, bar and restaurant. The bad thing is that its a big lake that attracts big boats. Skiing water is often limited to protected coves or anytime after 7 pm. I would push for the original American Skier reunion location and that is Indian Lake, MI. Plenty of A-S on that lake.
-
bump... Phil can we make this a sticky? I want to see this reunion happen.
-
Oh, I guess it is!!
-
yep :) and I think you as a moderator should have privileges to make posts a sticky..not sure though..
-
Hey Chris Heille, Is there any way to start up an address book or some way to track where everyone is located with Amskier boats? I live in Dallas and it would be cool to know if there is anyone else in the area to meet up with on the lake sometime. I was also going to post some more info about the Amskier reunion. ...Table Rock Lake in Missouri is a great place to have it. It is the center of country and I googled to find that Chris Craft does a reunion on that lake. They listed alot of cool places that they meet up and cruise to for meals and such. There is a resort on the lake that they all stay at. I googled Chris Craft Table Rock Lake to find the info. http://www.heartland-classics.org/2008/06/cruisin-table-rock-lake-08/. (http://www.heartland-classics.org/2008/06/cruisin-table-rock-lake-08/.) Just a thought to make it central to everyone that might want to go. I know of a few other American Skier boats on that lake already and it is not too far from Ron and Dan so that maybe they will join us as well. Thoughts?
-
ER0578,
Im in Dallas as well. I think I saw your boat was having some work done a few years ago at WaterWorks because of a trailer accident ?? Well my email addy is listed in my profile if you want to chat sometime. My A.S. is actually in Missouri for the past few seasons but I will have it back here in Dallas late next month to due to work on it.
-
I am in Muskogee Oklahoma and Table Rock would be great. I am not to far from you Dallas guys I work in the area some times Possibly I will pull the 84 down some time!
-
Ok I've got the map updated. The question is...late spring or early fall?
-
I dont care when ;D but this deal has sat idle for too long. We need to appoint someone head of this thing. We need to choose 4 or 5 lakes and have a poll/vote on which one its gonna be.
If there is some sort of tie let Ron and or Dan choose between the two.
I might be willing to sponsor some commemerative aluminum plaques we could stick on the boat or windshield somewhere :o
-
Sounds like you just volunteered :P LOL!!!!
-
Mike:
if you want to take the lead, I will be your trusty assistant. or....vise versa.
-
Well let me know what you guys come up with. I would love to go! I am right here in Orlando. I am not sure how far I can travel, but I will def give it a shot wherever it is. If my information is correct, Amskier started here in FL. Does that mean more of the boats are here?
-
JDSkier91. I might be down there the end of Feb, beginning of March. Let's ski!!
-
Let me know also Chris, Im nearby that area! I should be in the water and have a bunch of hours on the barefoot by then.
-
Will do. Thanks
-
Hey Chris, since it appears you have a map set up already...... what seems to be a central location from what everyone is suggesting? I wouldnt MIND taking lead on this thing, but it appears you are a few steps ahead of me. With that being said, if any research or anything else needs to be done.... I will be glad to do some.
Let me know.
Im like you though, I just dont want to see this thing go to the way side. It appears there are a good 4 or 5 of us who really want to make this happen. If there are more, please speak up!!! Im thinking summer 11 might be to close even as far away as it seems. As much as I hate to wait so long, summer 12 sounds better. By then the site might have another 100 members or so.
Im on the east coast, so what comes to mind for me is Tennessee (or therabouts) because that is central to the country and on my side ;D I dont know any lakes there, but it appears to me that myself going up from FLA or someone coming down from Michigan would have about the same trip, but that doesnt help any west coast people.
-
We could always start a post where everyone who is potentially interested in going puts down their State and City.....just a thought..
-
I like it Phil. Not a "where do you think it should be thread" but a "where are you located thread". That would help us find a fairly central location I think
-
Phil! Great idea! Lets see where everyone is at...
Mike & Chris, I'll help out in anyway I can. I'm definitely going if its within three states of Ohio... Tenessee, the half-back state, is centally located and the water stays warm into the early Fall.
I'm thinking Summer / Fall of 2011 would be a good "test run" so we can work out details & planning hic-ups. I've helped my brother with a few similar gatherings and the second / third trips are always better... better attendance too!
Once we get a head count, I'll put together a menu and volunteer to cook if we decide to rent houseboats or a lodge someplace :) I may ski like crap, but I can cook up some vittles!!! :)
-
I have already started a map and later can start a new thead (sticky) of just what I have so far and for others to post their name and home city.
-
I've been thinking a lot about this in the past few weeks. I am going to use our Constant Contact service a work to post a survey for you guys to complete but here are my feelings. I think we should do an annual reunion but do a north and a south location and rotate it every other year. You lucky guys in the middle will have an opportunity to go to all of them without much of a drive. Guys like me, Mike and Phil won't have to pull a boat 9-12 hours. I can head up the north reunion and Mike can do the south (if he so wishes). That takes the pressure off the main organizers some.
I put this here to keep the "name and town" thread uncluttered.
-
I don't disagree with the north/south thing. I would just love for once off we got everyone together for a big gathering. Possibly after 2 years of north and south????? PLENTY of time to plan ahead.
-
I will post the survey when I get a change. That will give us some data to make a decision.
-
I posted north drivetime zone and south drivetime zone pics.
-
Chris, those maps are awesome. But anyway to make them bigger? They aren't getting shrunk much when you upload them are they?
-
Great maps! It looks like I might get lucky and be able to do both locations.
-
I can do the Indiana & / or the TN sites... Tupelo, MS, is a tad bit out of my driving range :( Recommend we start with TN as a middle-ground site for the 1st "reunion" so the most North & South guys can go... :)
Joel
-
My boat is in Northern Wi, but I live in North Illinois. Lake Cumberland in Tn is a grat lake. We went houseboating there many years ago and it was a blast. Plenty of water! I hope I can make it. I've got the boat in great shape, time to redo the trailer now. MO MONEY!
-
I'm ready for the reunion! When? Where? I like Tenn. Let's rock! I will drag her!
-
That's the attitude!
-
Tennessee works for me!!! Where are we at with this thing? Summer 2011 will be here before ya know it... I HOPE!!! :D
-
THIS IS A "RE-POST": "Tennessee works for me!!! Where are we at with this thing? Summer 2011 will be here before ya know it... I HOPE!!!"
Since there were no responses on my NOV post I figured it was time to "stir the pot" so to speak... So, where are we at with this thing???? Summer 2011 will be here before ya know it... ;D Let me know what I can do to assist!!!! 8)
-
I'M in tenn so it definitely works for me ! Lots of great spots here just need to pick one!!!
-
I will do everything I can to be ready for summer 2011 in TENN........
-
Let me know which sites interest everybody and i will get some info. If we wait until spring to get the ball rolling it will be to late!!!
-
I dont know anything about any spots up there, so just about anything is fine with me.......
-
Take your pick in TN. If we plan it soon enough I can take leave to ensure I'll be there and not traveling on Gov business :)
-
Lake Cumberland is a lot of. Ive gone houseboat ing there and had a blast
-
Sorry guys. I've been preoccupied lately. Phil, call me at 814-282..6562 after New Years.
-
This is a quote from one of the other guys on here: "Kentucky Lake has several good sandbars and 5-6 places to dock and eat or drink across the lake. Rented a cabin last summer for a family vacation at Buchanan's Resort, nice place, and affordable. They have a decent Marina, fuel, and restaurant on the resort. Also, a floating bar across the bay has live music on the dock every Fri/Sat/Sun..."
http://www.parislanding.com/buchanan/index.htm (http://www.parislanding.com/buchanan/index.htm)
Sounds like the perfect place to me :)
-
I have been out of the loop for awhile and things in my life are making it difficult for me to be involved with too much planning. I am sorry. I will do what I can but right now cannot take a lead on this.
-
I think in another month or two we'll need to get a head count and find out who's really committed to having a reunion. If there aren't many perhaps we should give it another year?
-
Committed! Period! If its to early for my boat to be complete, so be it..... I AM on the water so I AM going to be there...... I just hope its DONE ;D
-
I'm IN!!!!! Tennessee... make it so!!!!! 8)
-
I'm in for TN
-
We're in!
-
Thats FOUR already... Come on guys!!! My family is already making plans to go!!! Sign on everybody & lets make this happen :)
-
like i said before I'm already in Tn. so I'm in!!
-
Is anybody taking the lead on this get together / reunion??? If so, we need get it together pretty soon or any resort / park worth a damn will be booked... Spring / Summer is not that far off...
If no one is taking the lead, can we get a volunteer??? Preferably someone local... who knows the area... maybe knows the Resort/Marina folks... has been there before... HINT... HINT... ;)
Anyone...? Anyone...? Bueller...? Brueller...??? ;D
Joel
-
haha, I'm guessing that hint is directed towards me! I wish I could take the lead on this, but I'm on standby to deploy from now until April, would hate to have to drop the whole thing due to an unexpected trip. I think the best thing to do is each price out a cabin large enough for your families from the marina I had listed previously, we just need to settle on a date.
We could see if the resort can get us consolidated into neighboring cabins, but then again it's not a very large resort (the majority of the place is RV hookups) and all the cabins generally surround the pool and common area.
Let's settle on dates and see what kind of availability the resort has, sound good?
-
May, June, July! !!!!!!!
-
Uhhhmmmm... Yeah, that was aimed in your GENERAL DIRECTION ;D Sucks being on recall - hard to make concrete plans :(
How about we look seriously at July (everybody's kids will be out of school by then). Keehr22 pick three or four days (example: 10th - 13th) that work for you & check on availability & prices of at least five cabins. If the cabins are available and we all agree on the dates we can make individual reservations. So far I think we've got four or five committed / confirmed. We'll need to do this quickly - I'll bet they book up fast!
If you get recalled in the meantime, the rest of us will just have to take pics to send to whatever sandpit they send ya to... You'll be there in spirit & we'll be sure to hoist a couple cold adult beverages in your honor :)
Does that sound like a plan???
Joel

-
Sounds excellent! The 10th-13th is a weekend in June, I think June was discussed before. I'll give Buchanan's a call this week and let you all know whats available.
Now I just have to get on the skier, need a new engine installed between now and lake season!
-
I threw out the 10th - 13th only as an example, but the wife tells me the kids are out of school on June 8th so that weekend works for me!!!! How about you other guys???
Thanks for looking into the availability / costs for us... I hope some other guys can make it up/down/over as we should have a blast! The weather & water in TN will be perfect in mid-June - not tooooo HOT like it will be in late July / August / Sept.
Just so everyone knows, which lake & resort area in TN are we talking about??? I lost that info about 1000 threads ago... ::)
Joel
-
Yep, by July that water will be in the 90's! The resort is called Buchanan's:
http://www.buchananresort.com/ (http://www.buchananresort.com/)
Nice marina and shop, fuel, camp store, and great little restaurant on the resort. Also, a floating bar across the cove that has live music Fridays and Saturdays.
-
What a deal, are you kidding me!? $210.00 a night for waterfront.......
I would be with one other person. If there is another 2 that would share that would make it $52 per person per night. You cant get a best western for that
-
I'M IN!!! I'll be coming down with the family and making a mini-summer vacation out of it... There are a number of accomodations choices from the Motel ($89 for 4 adults) to the Waterfront Cabins, etc... We'll probably opt for one in the mid-price range.
How many owners / boats are seriously thinking of coming...? If we get 10 participants or more to COMMIT, then it should be a really good time!!! I live in Columbus, OH, and dont want to drive 600 miles just to be at the dock in TN with no other AM Skiers... I think this is a good idea, not cost prohibitive, in the middle of most of us and can easily be put together quickly without too much effort. We can leave the dinners, boat outings, who's skiing where & other plans for later...
Lets get this FIRST AM SKIER "reunion" kicked off with some real participation!!! Later reunions can grow from here...
SO... WHO's COMING!?!? The dates are JUNE 10th, 11th & 12th, Fri / Sat / Sun!!!! COME ON!!! LETS SKI ON KENTUCKY LAKE!!!! ;D
Joel

You can count us in...would NEVER want to have to admit to missing the first American Skier Reunion.
...I see that the resort/lodges do not allow pets. We've got a Whippet that refuses to be left behind. Anyone know of any pet-friendly, local accommodations?
-
Plenty of available lodging that weekend, the Wife and I are in for a Standard cottage, they're right next to the pool and short walk from the piers, looking forward to the reunion!
so... that's +1 2001 American Skier in attendance;
Current list=
gongchuan
Joel
Pelvic Woo
Keehr22 - Brandon
Let's make it happen!
-
Just a quick thought after getting off the phone with Buchanan's, when you guys make reservations make sure to reserve a slip as well! I believe its complimentary with some of the bigger cabins, but I'd verify.
-

whippet really we have a whippet too she's brindle and over 40 lbs!
-
Sounds like a fun weekend, Susan & I have it marked on our calender, don't know about the dogs. we have a small lion my wife likes to bring everywhere....RonT
-
Alright, it appears there is a date set. A place set. Just so there is no question I think we should make a new thread, something like " Reunion, this date, this place" and have a place for only reunion details to be posted with no clutter. Like who is going of course, but also how many with each group, if any of us might want to hook up for a bigger and cheaper place, so on and so forth.
Phil? Just a thought
-
Sounds like a good idea... Maybe a "sticky" including the link to Buchanans Resort, etc...
So far I count FIVE including Ron T... So far so good!
Phil, do you or one of the Administrators have a way of sending a mass email to everyone on the AM Skier board concerning this event??? I know a lot of people dont visit here very often during the "off season".... Maybe a heads up is in order so they dont miss out...
To quote Pink Floyd: "Is there anybody... out there!?!?!?" Lets rally the troops if at all possible :)
Joel
-
Sounds awesome, Yep I'm in, Ron called me this past Friday ........ it's on the calender, Paula and I will be there!

Guys, I was making my reservations at the Resort and they only have two styles of accomodations available - the waterfront suite ($170) & the corporate suite ($190) per night... Apparently, there is a wedding & a family reunion happening. I was caught off-guard by this info since we budgeted a standard cottage price. I'll have to touch base with "the boss" to see if we can swing that + plus gas for a 1200 mile round trip. Some of you may have the same problem so I thought I'd bring it to your attention. I didnt check on other available dates (yet) - wanted to see what everyone's reactions were to the lack of available accomodations.
I spoke with a lady named "Anita". I told her I'd get back with her soon... :-\
Joel
-
I'm pretty well cool with most June July weekends
-
Same here but anything before the 4th of July weekend would be best - a lot more crowds, etc, during & after that weekend...
Is it too late to change the dates to the following weekend - June 17th - 19th - if they have more accomodations available??? I dont mean to be a cheapskate, but I'm gonna have to do a LOT of kissing up to get the wifey to go for that kinda cash outlay... She's looking at a 4 day cruise (for four) @ $800... The ladies love those damn cruises.... I'd rather boat & ski :)
I'll call Buchanans to see whats available (if y'all are agreeable)...
Joel
-
Buchanan's office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (better than Banker's Hours)... I called & wrote them requesting information on available accomodations for approx 10 standard and/or deluxe cabins. I tried to play it up that this is the FIRST of what we hope to be an ANNUAL event (preferably at thier location) to try & sweeten the pot... They probably have more business than they know what to do with, but I'll try to see what I can dig up for us...
How many confirmed attendees do we have now??? SIX or is it more??? Let me know!!!
Btw, My cell phone # is (614) 886-3511. Call me if anyone would like to discuss or has ideas to make this a great weekend :)
Thanks,
Joel

Current Situation at Buchanans Resort:
June 10th weekend is booked except for the waterfront suites (pretty expensive).
June 18th weekend: Four Standard Cottages, One Deluxe Cottage & all Motel Rooms available (Waterfront Suites are last to go).
July 8th weekend: Four Standard Cottages, Two Deluxe Cottages & all Motel Rooms still available (Waterfront Suites are last to go).
Mooring: Covered slips with electricity @ $14 a night (not bad especially if we have a lot of rain, bilge pumps, etc... ) - I didnt ask about trailer parking but that typically costs a few bucks a day.
Note: Some accomodations MAY not be available on Friday night, but the Motel Rooms are wide open so you can stay there the first night & switch to a cottage the following day. She wasnt very clear as to why this could/would happen. I'm sure you all know how to make reservations & verify your accomodations including times / dates of arrival/departure.
Recommendations:
Weekend of June 18th would be my first pick since its two weeks before July 4th Weekend (BUSY)... July 8th is running second because its right after 4th of July and some people may find it harder to attend (competing family functions / schedules, etc). Either weekend works for me!!
Needless to say, the sooner we make reservations the better our chances of getting what we need - cottages for all three nights (Fri / Sat / Sun) or just two (Sat / Sun) your choice - I'm staying Fri, Sat & Sun (departing on Monday). We'll need to decide which weekend we'd like SOON and make reservations ASAP... unless we book as a GROUP (which means someone has to front the $$ on a credit card). Any volunteers... ;D I told the nice lady that I would get a consensus from you all and call her back as soon as possible. She seemed very interested in an AM Skier reunion at thier facility.
Let me know - SOON!!!!!
Joel
-
We're still in, regardless of the weekend. Not too sure about accommodations yet with the aforementioned Whippet situation but, we'll be there, somewhere.
-

Been on vacation sorry for the delay.. The post already is a sticky. I can make a new one if you want? Yes, I do have a way to mail every member.
-
Phil,
Please send an email to all members asking if they can make the 1st Annual Reunion at Buchanans Resort on KY Lake (in North Central TN). Copy my latest post (above) & the link to Buchanans Resort. Title the new sticky "1st Annual AM Skier Reunion - June or July 2011". Ask for all positive response/notifications (YESs) to be given via the new "sticky" post. THEY NEED TO RESPOND ASAP!!!
I'm sure alot of our members dont know about this since its been brewing in the off-season and probably havent been on the AM Skier site. Were shooting for one of the two weekends listed above and whichever fits the most people wins so we need to know who's coming and approx how many days NOW!!! Once I get a concensus I'll post the results on the new sticky and give the Resort a heads up on approx # of people attending.
EACH MEMBER WILL HAVE TO MAKE THIER OWN RESERVATIONS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE ONCE THE RESULTS ARE IN... It is first come / first served.
We'll get this worked out better next year, try to locate a few sponsors, door prizes, etc, but first we need to show our members and the resort were a serious bunch who are committed to having this event, but MOSTLY having a great time with our fellow AM Skier members at a really nice location :)
Thanks,
Joel

Will do. Hoping I can make it too....
-
Confirmed Ron made our reservations this morning, we should be arriving mid afternoon Friday June 17 and plan on heading back Sunday (so far)
Dan T
-
I'll be there on Friday as well. Not leaving until Monday though... I might be a tad bit EXHAUSTED by the time Sunday rolls around - give myself a day to unwind and enjoy the scenery :)
