Title: the shame
Post by: Mike Harry on September 24, 2011, 06:04:23 PM
Had to have the old girl towed in today bye the old mans pontoon. Fried the starter.  Only good news of the day.... someone actually recognized that my boat was an American Skier AND that it was an Advance. That was before she wouldn't crank for me thank goodness!

Could have been because Ron used to test some of the boats on that lake. I'm sure folks remember seeing them out there.

Yeah, problem is I'm poor folk. Starter has been getting worse and worse cranking slower and slower. Yesterday was the day that's all.

Hopefully I can find one cheap enough. No huge deal.

After some checking around my starter is a gear reduced Denzo..... with a fancy mounting plate.

Same starter as several Toyota's ....... $86 and I change the face plate out for the stock one.... I'm in business.

Don't try this at home boys and girls  ;D and yes it is sealed for spark arresting.

Just joshing man....... as simple as changing oil only alot quicker. I didn't believe it was the same starter myself until a guy who used to build them / now works for the same city as I do in vehicle maintenance took them both apart and showed me.

Who knew? Probly everyone but me.... but I do now. Thank goodness I didn't drop $300 on a reman.... that's the cheapest I could find one with the same face plate.

Redeemed the old girl today, 86 American Skier towed in an 87 nautique....... With new motor, not super excited about that, but the rings are surely seated now
