Title: Penn Ohio Ski Club Shenango Lake Pennsylvania
Post by: beachpinko on August 06, 2011, 08:34:26 AM
This one is for all you old timers. The boat was a1979 American Skier . I was growing up with Dale Pinko (dad) and we used to belong to the Penn-Ohio ski club. Somewhere around Sharpsville Pennsylvania. Shenango lake/Mahany reservoir. Can anyone expand on this. I was around 5 to 10 years old during this time. Dad would be pushing 60 now.

I grew up within bicycle riding distance from the course.  I never skied there as a kid but camped there last year and made like a gazillion passes that week.  Needed another vacation by the time I got home.  The course is just to the west of Rt 846 on the south side of the lake.  The club doesn't run the course too much now. Most of them ski just east of Rt 18 on the South side of the lake.

Thanks! I can't take any credit. I moved away from Ohio at 17. Joined the Coast Guard. Traveled the country. The American Skier is a 79. 351 commander  (240 ish horse power). Borg Warner Velvet Drive. with 13/13 left Hand. Original Motor. I would guess. On the 4 or 5th hour meter by now.  . I think!!!!!  I get to see the boat at Christmas when I go see family. Looks nice!. Brings back lots o great memories. The owner at the time was Dale Pinko (Dad). Dale just went thru spinal scoliemphanifinosisisisis surgery or some thing like that on c-2 thru c-6. He blames 38 years of lifting too heavy of car parts for G.M. Lordstown plant and water skiing. Steve Pinko (my uncle)owns the boat now. I imagine it hits the water a dozen  times a year.

If and when Uncle Steve gets the boat out, you would find him on Mosquito Lake in Trumbull County Ohio, Vienna Ohio. He lives minutes from the causeway boat ramp. You also might possibly find Steve up in Bradford Pennsylvania, Corydon County. He has a little summer camp next to the Alleghany National Forest. Alleghany ßState Park on Lake Kinzua. If you see him out flag him down say Hi. Then remind him, the American Skier belongs with Jason (the next generation) in Fort Lauderdale.  8)

Missed ya by a year...   We, USCGC Midgett & Boutwell, worked with the Woodrush on a few SAR cases during 89 - 91.  We actually FOUND one crab fisherman ALIVE huddled in his "gumby" suit on some rock.  He was the only survivor of a sunken crab boat - once we defrosted him, he told the whole crew his story while sitting on the mess deck... you could have heard a pin drop.  Almost 20 years later I heard him tell it again in an episode of "Deadliest Catch" - talk about dejavu.  Its a great feeling to be associated with saving someone's life - even if you werent the coxswain or the helo pilot, etc...
