Can you review the thermostat removal and maybe post some pics some time.  Mine looked like it didn't come out (or didn't come out easily)

I have some work to do at Marine Power later this morning & see if there is an engine there i can take a picture of to help...stay tuned.

I took a picture of an engine at M-P but apparantly it is too large for the site to accept it.
The t-stat sits inside of a housing on the top, front of the engine & has several hoses attached to it. Remove the hoses, remove the bolts holding the housing to the top of the intake maniford, when off hopefully the gasket stayed on the mainfold but if it stayed with the housing you will need to carefully remove or replace it. You should see the t-stat deep in the housing when turned upside down. You will need to remove the spacer from the housing for the t-stat to fall out. Make sure the replacement goes in the same way. If the spacer is not coming out give me a call...Shop # 985-542-4336

It was the spacer removal I was missing.  Is it ok to use permagask to make a gasket or should it be gasket matrial?

I can adjust this.. How big is the photo? The forum should accept pictures up to 8Mb in size which is big for a photo.

Well, down here in da bayou da cajuns use watever dey gots to do da job, I hers gator gut stretched out does a pretty goot job of makin a gasket. But if I rembembers goot da gasket hold da spacer up in der & keeps it from fallin down in da manifold...better look real goot at how dat t-stat spacer is retained, dey used a couple different kinds back den, don't know which one u gots. I tried puttin dat picture back in and it said again it was too big...my guess is I ain't doin somthin right, how small I gots to roll dat picture up to shove it down dis cable. My puter says it be a 415KB jpeg file watever dat means.

415kb? That is tiny. Hmm.. Want to email me the picture and I'll post it? Not sure what the problem is, does it give you a specific error?
