Can someone tell me how a break away swim platform works or why you would want one? I am in the final stages of putting my boat back together and just read a little about a break away the other day. Im wondering if I should put one on my boat....... but was wondering what the purpose is and if anyone could shoot me a pic or two it would be great. If I go back stock, it would be to the bolted down screwed on version.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Break away swim platform??? What will they think of next... I've never heard of one. What I have is a removeable swim platform with the mounts permanently bolted to the transom. The brackets on the bottom of the platform slip over the mounts and are held in by cotter pins. Very strong & stable. Very easy to put on and remove. If your leaving your boat outside for any amount of time, its nice to know your swim platform is safely stored inside the garage or the house. I recommend it highly :)

Are you referring to the platform that folds up?

"break away" is just the way it was stated to me. Im guessing removable is what I was looking for. I just didnt understand why you would want to take it off, but the leaving it outdoors comment really makes sense.
Thanks
Got any shots of how yours mounts? I might want to give it a shot...... sounds like a good idea

Look in the photo gallery... "1991 Advance" by Joel. One of the pics shows the mounts on the back of the boat. I'm sure this isnt the only boat out there with this set up. I'll see if I can attach a photo to this... I'm not a techie.. where's a 12 yr old when you need one ;)

Whattayaknow... it worked! Anyway, teak swim platforms arent cheap and people will steal anything if they think they can make a buck... :( Besides, it makes it very handy to take off for cleaning (which I still have to do) and sanding (which I still have to do) and oiling (which I still have to do) Damn! I gotta lot of work to do... ;)

I must say that I like the detatchable option better than the folding platform (which I have).

NICE...now the big question is, where do I get the parts to make this modification? or where could I get the specs so I could fab the parts myself?

Removable brackets were developed as ski boats grew & people couldn't fit them in their garages anymore. (next came the hinging trailer tongues for the same reason) Theft is probably the least concern, I have never heard of a stolen one but I'm sure there has been one stolen somewhere. Cleaning & maint. is an added benifit. I'm sure I still have some of these in my parts room, if needed send me a note....RonT

Thats an even better reason to put them on... Ron you have a P.M. and and email from me.
