I have a 1990 a/s with a 1" shaft just wondering what size and how long of a piece do I need to replace the stuffing I see it's sold in dif sizes and don't want to get the wrong size and length thanks in advance shawn

A foot of 1/4" teflon type will do the job

So I don't need to buy the wax covered rope stuff just Teflon tape that sounds good to me thanks alot

NO, I said teflon type not tape, there are two common types of packing gland materials out there, the older boats had graphite type "rope" and then came the teflon rope, the teflon is whiteish colored & the graphite is well, graphite blackish, and is hard to clean off your hands. The teflon is much better to use.....do NOT wrap teflon tape around the shaft!
